A Kia Sportage caught fire in the Pixar Pals parking lot at Disneyland on Friday morning and spread to numerous vehicles, the Anaheim Fire & Rescue Department said.
Anaheim firefighters responded just before 10 a.m. after receiving reports of a burning car in the parking lot. Video and photos posted on social media showed flames enveloping a car and smoke rising over the structure.
When units arrived, they found the fire had spread to two or three additional vehicles, an Anaheim fire department spokesperson told The Times.
Arson investigators later determined that the fire originated in the engine compartment of the Kia, the spokesperson said, though why it ignited is still unknown. An estimated six to 12 cars sustained varying degrees of damage from the fire and smoke. Some are no longer drivable.
The main entrance of the parking lot was closed for about an hour until the fire was extinguished and the area deemed safe, the spokesperson said. No injuries were reported and theme park operations were not impacted, the spokesperson said.
Disneyland representatives did not immediately comment on the fire.
